III. Seashells

May, Friday 2nd 2025,
This intimate and familiar theme emerged during a conversation with my dear friend, the artist Laurence Kiberlain, about Brittany and collections of seashells.
Since childhood, I’ve been gathering shells everywhere, surely to assemble them into a future project, though I don’t yet know what it will be.
Together, we talked about scallop shells, the ones I’d once hung up during a summer, which clinked softly like the pleasant sound of sailboat riggings.
I also described the idea of fantastical, oversized jewelry, mixing brass wires with natural leather pieces I later crafted for the photo shoot with Théo.

The very next day, Laurence spontaneously sent me the drawing you now have before you.
To find its gentle, tangy colors, I referenced the wonderful photographs in a cherished book by Henri Queffelec, a few illustrations from Nousdeux1984@gmail.com, various antique engravings, and some personal photos…
My first theme was born.
